Cushmic Sounds is thrilled to offer this exceptionally clean example of an (All Original) Genuine Vintage Gibson SJ-200 from early 1952 in a Stunning Sunburst Nitro finish that has aged to Perfection!

Serial: A9901 (White Label)

• truevintageguitar.com confirms this serial number is early 1952.

Gibson's shipping ledger archives confirm this SJ-200 was shipped from the Kalamazoo, MI factory on 26/02/1952.

• Info provided by the current owner via Jon Sutherland - Gibson Customer Service.

Making its debut in 1937 and available only as a custom-order until officially hitting the Gibson catalogue in 1938 due to intense popularity, the SJ-200 is still a holy grail guitar to many a singer-songwriter today.

From the bygone era of Hollywood's singing cowboys with silver screen endorsements, the Super Jumbo quickly gained iconic status. But it wasn't just these cowboys who helped this instrument gain popularity.

From the likes of the Everly Brothers, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Pete Townshend, Emmylou Harris, Tom Petty, Orianthi - all who have been honoured with signature models have added to this iconic instrument's status, known as "King of The Flat Tops".

1952 was a special year for Gibson that saw the introduction of arguably the most iconic electric solid body guitar of all time, the Les Paul model, which continues to reign supreme. But let's not talk about electric guitars, we're here for this Glorious SJ-200!

Weighing in at a mere 2.1kg (4.8lbs) with a lovely Spruce top that features internal double X bracing (there is also a second X brace under the fretboard area of the top), elegant plain Maple sides, stunning flame Maple back with aesthetic strip down the centre, gorgeous flame Maple neck with Ebony strip and comfortable full "C" shape, bound Ebony fretboard with beautiful Mother of Pearl Crown inlays, 20 original Narrow frets and original Bone nut.

Nut width: 42mm

Width at 12th fret: 50mm

Other features include multi-ply binding on the top and back, original 2mm thick pickguard with lovely detail, original "Moustache" Ebony (bolted) bridge with Mother of Pearl inlay, original saddle and end pins.

The headstock is adorned with Mother of Pearl Gibson logo and Crown inlays, original Truss Rod cover, and original gold Kluson Deluxe single line, single ring tuners with Tulip buttons.

Overall condition is Excellent. There are no structural cracks or breaks, there are a few extremely minor dents and scrapes throughout, most notably at the base of the top, and on the headstock face, just above the low E string post. The original hide glue neck joint is secure with minimal checking only on the back heel, the bidge is secure, and the pickguard is firmly in place, but let's take a moment to admire the glorious checking throughout the original nitro finish on this beautiful 70+ year old guitar - Wowee!

In summary, this stunning guitar's only minor flaw has been left as-is. This is to preserve its 100% originality. It's very playable, though I personally feel the saddle could be taken down a touch, but I'll leave it to the next owner should they want to lower the action.

Comes with its original Gibson Brown Hardshell Case with Pink Lining also in fantastic condition, handle intact, all latches in perfect working order.

Serviced here at Cushmic Sounds with Elixir 11-52 Nanoweb 80/20 bronze strings, frets cleaned, fretboard cleaned, truss rod tested, adjusted, and works as it should.

NOTE: As this is a vintage instrument with its original Nitro finish, I have not used any spray polishes. The cleaning process was done with extreme care using a super fine brush to get rid of dust, and then a final clean with a micro fibre polish cloth.
